A mobile solution for saving lives: we helped build Reanimator App
Introduction
Introduction
Our Azure, .NET, and mobile technology experts helped the Polish Voluntary Fire Brigades Association to rewrite and implement the ground-breaking Reanimator and Reanimator Community mobile apps, which guide users step-by-step through the critically important process of providing first aid to people in life-threatening distress.
-
Customer profile
The Polish Voluntary Fire Brigades Association (Związek Ochotniczych Straży Pożarnych Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej) operates nationwide, providing selfless assistance in fire protection and striving to safeguard the health and lives of citizens in need.
-
The Goal
The project’s main goal was to rewrite mobile applications – Reanimator and Reanimator Community – into widely available apps to help users provide medical first aid to people in cardiac arrest situations. An essential need for the client was to implement functionality for notifying nearby First Rescuers of the need for CPR support, as well as to introduce a map module of defibrillators in the area that would guide the user to the nearest point with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
-
The Challenge
Our work with the client involved several challenges that required a strategic and personalized approach. One of the first was the client’s initial hesitation, rooted in negative past experiences with previous subcontractors, so building mutual trust was the most crucial task. Another was the client’s insistence on minimizing costs – we had to balance budget constraints and deliver high-quality solutions.
The potential danger of maintaining an unattended AED defibrillator database was a critical challenge. This risk, including the potential for misuse by trolls and bots, required a proactive approach from our team of specialists.
-
The Solution
Despite the challenges, our team of experts renewed the app by setting up a new cloud infrastructure, conducting training, and preparing a manual so the client could smoothly manage it. We also updated most of the libraries, changed the graphics layer, and deployed the apps on the latest versions of Android and iOS.
To ensure the project’s success, we took a proactive approach to cost savings. Our Azure Architect’s insight led to identifying and deactivating an excessive service, optimizing costs, and providing a more efficient allocation of resources.
To help the client secure applications from malicious attacks, we introduced an alternative path that restricted AED acceptance to trusted users only. By doing so, we addressed the client’s security concerns, keeping in mind that the solution we are building for them is more than just a mobile app – it’s software that everyone can use in the future to help save someone’s life.
-
The Outcome
The Reanimator and Reanimator Community apps, now available on the App Store and Google Play, have met and exceeded customer expectations. Our specialists have used their adaptability, innovation, and commitment to user safety to successfully deliver comprehensive mobile solutions that contribute to the well-being of the broader community today.
Improved, deployed, and published apps with all the necessary functionalities now help the client fulfill the crucial task of providing clear instructions and support for First Aid.
